Looks like a brother-in-law contract to me. They got paid for three extra miles of construction.

    2. Newer roads require a certain amount of turns put in them to prevent drivers from zoning out on long stretches of straight roads.

    3. That is definitely a rare sight for Florida. Usually, everything there is laid out in a perfect grid with nothing but straight lines for miles

    4. This is a desire path road. They looked at where the peoples’ driving flattened the grass and then paved it over.

    5. I just flew over this a few days ago and was super curious. I get that long ass highways are made intentionally curvy to prevent “highway hypnosis” but is this one even long enough for that?

    6. This is W State Road 84 off Alligator Alley. I once noticed it when looking at Google maps and haven’t found a concrete answer as to why it’s like that. If anyone knows the real reason I’d love to know.

    7. That is snake road. So named because it curves like a snake. lol also known as government road some number I forget off the top of my head.

To slow down cars so they don’t hit wildlife. Seems like protected land around it, but with a hwy exit. Gators, snakes, birds, lizards, turtles etc don’t know about cars. Better than speed bumps

Generally roads are built with curves to keep people from falling asleep or losing their attention to the road!

    10. Prevented drug runners from having a straight line road to efficiently land and drop off cargo

Is this why they won’t legalize recreational weed? The population is already far too stupid to make a straight line.

    12. This is Snake Road, which was done in the 60’s as part of the Johnson reconstruction project. It was supposed to be safer, at least according to data at that time.

Fun fact: It’s also called Snake road coz there are tons of snakes there.

    13. I swear officer, the road was weaving back and forth. I swear im not drunk, just listen to me.

    14. It’s built for drunk drivers. When u get to a certain point this is a straight line.

Curved roads help reduce speeding since the driver can’t see as far ahead as if it was straight. This means they can’t see if the road has hazards or not so the driver shouldn’t speed for their own safety. Having trees directly next to the road also causes people to drive slower and safer because your brain doesn’t want you to hit the tree so you start driving safer. Doesn’t work all the time but better than nothing.

    16. Driving perfectly straight puts drivers to sleep, gentle curves keep them alert. Thanks 1930’s Germany (no, really, they figured it out when creating the Autobahn.)
